Intensives for Athletes and Performers

Process what happened. Rebuild trust. Move forward with intention.

EMDR

Athletes and performers are often expected to recover quickly, regain confidence, and keep performing, sometimes before they have had a chance to fully process what happened.

An injury, public mistake, unexpected loss, traumatic experience, harsh criticism, or tough transition can stay linked to fear, self-doubt, avoidance, or emotional distress. Even if you understand what happened, your body might still react as if the threat is ongoing.

EMDR intensives give you focused time in therapy to work through difficult experiences that might be affecting your mental health, confidence, sense of self, or ability to perform.

Who May Benefit?

EMDR intensives can help athletes, coaches, performing artists, executives, first responders, and other high performers who are dealing with:

  • Fear of reinjury or returning to competition

  • Distress following a performance mistake or significant loss.

  • Anxiety connected to a previous competition, audition, or public event.

  • Mental blocks associated with distressing experiences

  • Loss of confidence after injury, criticism, or public scrutiny

  • Intrusive memories, avoidance, or heightened emotional reactions

  • Identity concerns related to retirement, transition, or role loss

  • Trauma or personal experiences affecting performance and daily functioning

  • Difficulty feeling safe, prepared, or emotionally regulated under pressure

EMDR is a mental health treatment that helps people process distressing or traumatic experiences and reduce how they affect their emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and daily life. It uses guided techniques, such as eye movements or tapping, to support the brain’s natural healing process.

EMDR Therapy vs. Mental Performance Coaching

Mental performance coaching helps individuals strengthen the mindset and practical skills needed to perform with greater confidence, consistency, and purpose. Coaching may include focus, preparation, motivation, emotional regulation, positive self-talk, visualization, resilience, and effective strategies for managing pressure, overcoming mental barriers, and performing at their best.

Before Scheduling

  • A consultation and clinical screening are required before scheduling an EMDR intensive.

  • The consultation will determine whether an EMDR intensive is appropriate based on your clinical needs, readiness, safety, and treatment goals.

  • EMDR intensives are not crisis services.

  • A single intensive does not guarantee that a concern will be fully resolved.

  • Additional therapy, referrals, or follow-up care may be recommended.

  • Intensive services may not be covered by insurance.

  • Payment is required before the intensive appointment is reserved.

  • EMDR services are available only when the client is physically located in South Carolina, North Carolina, or Maryland during treatment.

An initial consultation can help determine whether your goals are best supported through EMDR therapy, psychotherapy, mental performance coaching, or an appropriate combination of services. Each service maintains clear professional boundaries while ensuring your care is aligned with your individual needs and goals.
